OBITUARIO
Munroe E. Murphy
21 noviembre , 1937 – 23 octubre , 2020
The family of Munroe Murphy, aged 82 of Ingonish, sadly announce that he died peacefully at home on Friday, October 23, 2020. Born on November 21, 1937, Munroe was the third son of the late Willis James ‘Jim’ Murphy and Annie Elizabeth (nee Barnes). He was predeceased by brothers Innis Carmen and Herbert ‘Herb’ Hewlet, brother-in-law David Duncan MacDonald and sister-in-law Winnifred Christine (nee Zwicker). He is survived by his sister Marie Jeanette (David MacDonald), beloved wife of 56 years Rhadie Virginia (nee Budge), children Michael Munroe (Tracey Doucette) and Natalie Colleen (Chris Jones). His pride and joy were steadfastly his treasured grandchildren Jordon, Seamus, Liam, Eryn, Connor and great granddaughter Alayna. Also near and dear to his heart were his two god children Claude Donovan and Allison Williams, step-granddaughter Kayla Robinson (Colin) and step great grandchildren Austin and Alyssa. The majority of Munroe’s life was spent working tirelessly on road refurbishment all across Nova Scotia with Martell’s Construction with his brother Herb at his side (Mutt and Jeff). Decked out in their signature green work clothes from tip to toe, the two would leave in the early Monday morning hours for the job site, work all week and then race home late Friday evening, only to work the land of their small hobby farm on the weekends. Many of the people who he worked with at Martell’s were not just colleagues but became life-long friends. While he enjoyed keeping abreast of the news and lively debates on world happenings, Munroe’s interests in his spare moments included cheering on the Toronto Blue Jays and watching golf. He loved to travel in the off-work times, particularly in winter to enjoy the heat of the sunny south. When not travelling, he enjoyed going to the card games or a boisterous evening at home playing cards with friends and family to pass the winter evenings. He will be greatly missed as he takes his final journey to find eternal peace. His family wishes to send the sincerest thanks to all who extended their support during this time, in particular Lenora, Jessie, Lisa, Rychina and Janell. Due to seating restrictions Munroe’s family will be gathering Wednesday afternoon at St. John’s Anglican Church. Guests and community members may simultaneously attend the funeral at the Ingonish United Church on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 2pm and join the family for the committal in the Anglican Church yard. Masks & social distancing are required. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed via Fillmore & Whitman’s facebook page. The livestream will only be viewable shortly before the start of the service. Memories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com. Donations in Munroe’s memory may be made to either St. John’s Anglican Church, Ingonish United Church or the Ingonish Fire Department.

Dear Rhadie, Mike, Natalie and extended family:
Our condolences go out to at this time. You have always been a very special family in the lives of the Winters family. Our families have lived adjacent to one another for generations and Munroe and I, born five months apart, have known one another for eighty plus years. While I have lived outside the community for sixty plus years, you have always been our "go to family" in Ingonish. Munroe and Rhadie (and Mike) have always been there and so supportive of our mother, Margaret. Visits to Ingonish were never complete without visiting you and you always made us feel so welcome with your hospitality, your special chowders and Munroe's news and teasing. He was always concerned and thoughtful of others even when he endured so much discomfort in his later years............Munroe was a very special individual who has left us with a great legacy........ and now there is the challenge for us to be equally as thoughtful, considerate and concerned. Murphy Lane and Ingonish will not be the same without him. It was very touching to be part of the streamed Celebration of Life today. Thank you for being so thoughtful by including us despite the loss you are all processing. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you in the days ahead. With fond memories, Barbara and Frank Winters, Port Moody, British Columbia

To the family, I offer sincere condolences. Munroe was a young man when he stayed/ boarded with my family in Estmere, Victoria County. He worked for Martell’s at that time. I am assuming it was in the early 1960’s and I would have been in my early teens. My father and mother had great respect and admiration for him, as did myself and my siblings. My parents would visit him in later years and I recall him coming back to our family home years later. There is no doubt in my mind, Munroe made many friends and acquaintances in his life time... I am writing this condolence as a testament to the fact he will be remembered by many for the good human being he was...may he Rest In Peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Herb passing. I had the pleasure of knowing him when I also worked at Martells. The thing I remember most is his patience, making sure details were taking care and being willing to offer advice with a good way to complete the job. He will be missed by all that were lucky to know him and called a friend. Thoughts and prayers for everyone.
