

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alexander “Alex” Whiteway MacClure announces his peaceful passing on June 2, 2025, in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Born on December 5, 1942, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Alex was the beloved son of the late Alex and Dorris (Swann) MacClure.
Alex was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a cherished friend. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in the tourism industry, where he built lasting relationships and made meaningful contributions. He was especially proud to serve as the Financial Officer for the Canadian International Demining Corps, a role he held with great honour and dedication.
A passionate golfer, Alex served as an official with the Nova Scotia Golf Association and found joy in every round. He valued the time spent with friends and family, whether on the golf course, at home, or during visits to the dog park with his beloved companion, Mollie. He also gave generously of his time, volunteering with the Sydney Presbyterian Church and supporting his community with quiet kindness.
Alex is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children, David (Tracy) and Kathleen; and his sisters, Karen Russel and Bonnie MacLaren. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert MacClure, and his sister, Sandra Billock.
At the family’s request, there will be no memorial service at this time. Donations in Alex’s memory may be made to the Canadian Institute for the Blind, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of one’s choice. Alex will be remembered for his warmth, his deep love for his family, his profound love of Pictou County, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures.
