Benedict Stephen Joe, age 73, of Eskasoni, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

He was the son of the late John and Mary (Googoo) Joe.

He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. Benedict owned BJ’s Dairy in the 80’s and was a certified carpenter and a ‘jack of all trades’. He loved to play the fiddle and TV bingo. Benedict’s greatest joy was being a grandfather; family being the most important thing.

He is survived by daughters Miranda Joe, Julia (William) Young; sons Patrick (Lucy) Joe, Derek (Alice) Joe, Joey (Claudia) Joe; grandchildren Joey Ben, Newell, Jeanetty, Harmony, Keandra, Nova, Leim, Bryson, Benedict, Brody, Patrick, Savanna, Reeve, Julie, Theresa, Annie, Keisha, August, Mikhayla, Mary, Louis, Juliene, Ellenie; great grandchildren Aiden, Colt, Garcia, Penny, Benjamin, Lennox, Darah, Amelia and Merllya. Also surviving is his sister Mary Catherine Francis; brothers Edward (Barbara) Joe, John David Lafford, Kevin Lafford, Kenneth Lafford; brother-in-law Peter Cabot; sister-in-law Susie Marshall; 12 godchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Benedict was predeceased by his wife Annie Jane (Cabot) Joe, son Benedict Levi Joe; brothers Levi, Wilfred, Fabian, Noel, Joseph, John, Karl; sisters Tena and Mary Theresa.

A special thank you to the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home for their excellent care of our beloved Benedict.

Visitation will take place at 6 Flagroot Lane, Eskasoni on Saturday, January 26 at 7 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday at Holy Family Church with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment at Holy Family Parish Cemetery, Eskasoni.
