

87 – Whitney Pier
With deepest regret we announce the passing of Bernard Francis MacDonald, 87, of 55 Henry St. Sydney on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John Neil and Josephine (MacDonald) MacDonald. He was a member of Holy Redeemer parish.
He was employed at Sydney Steel for 41 years and retired in 1989 from the Blast Furnace Electrical Dept. He looked forward to spending his summers enjoying his family and grandchildren at the summer cottage at Island View. His cats Callie, Toby and Zack gave him many years of companionship and love.
Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, the former Kay Bartkow, sons Dennis (Jan), Raymond (Cathy) and four cherished grandchildren Melissa, Stephen, Brian, Leah and great granddaughter Molly Catherine. Also surviving is his brother Gregory (Betty), Delaware, USA and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son Michael in infancy and sisters Cecelia Moore and Etta French and brothers Lawrence and Leo.
Visitation for Mr. MacDonald will take place on Friday, March 13 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating.
