Blanche ‘Bronia’ Markotich, 81 of Sydney, formerly of Whitney Pier, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Julia (Miecznik) Nowak.

She was a member of St. Theresa’s parish, Sydney. Blanche loved to garden, cook and quilt, but foremost in her life was her attention to her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn, Sydney; Terri, Ottawa; sons John (Carolyn), Shelburne and Tony, Toronto. ‘Babcia’ will be dearly missed by her 3 grandchildren, Chris, Scott and Breanne. Also surviving are her 3 sisters Mrs. Nellie Tynski, Mrs. Mary Ryan and Jancia (Bernie) LaRusic, all of Sydney.

Blanche was predeceased by her husband John in 2006 and 2 brothers-in-law John Tynski and Ray Ryan.

Visitation for the late Mrs. Markotich will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 am at St. Mary’s Polish Church with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
