The world has lost a cherished soul—a caring mother, wife, daughter, auntie, sister and friend. With profound sorrow, we, the family of Cassandra Stevens (47), announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, surrounded by the love and comfort of family and friends.
Cassandra was born on December 1, 1976, at St. Rita’s Hospital in Sydney, N.S., to her loving parents, Annie and Roderick Stevens. She was raised in Eskasoni First Nation, where she embraced and took pride in her Mi’kmaw cultural roots. Cassandra was an extraordinary individual with a heart of pure gold. She was a loving and compassionate woman with a generous spirit and a witty sense of humour. She was a devoted member of the Eskasoni Holy Family Parish. Her vibrant personality brought warmth and joy to everyone she met, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her. Known for her warm, caring nature and beautiful soul, she was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She selflessly devoted her precious time and spent years caring for her grandfather and our beloved dad, inspiring us all with her remarkable compassion and unwavering love. She took on the role of caring for the Mi’kmaw White Sheet and the Grand Council Flag for the community after the passing of her Grandfather, Levi Denny. Cassandra was faithful to the St. Anne’s Mission in Potlotek and made sure to attend the mission every year. One of her children once asked her, “If you can go anywhere in the world, where would you go?” She replied “Potlotek!”
Cassandra served as a dedicated Teacher’s Assistant for 17 years at the Eskasoni Elementary & Middle School and the ESK Immersion School. Her commitment in this role made a lasting impression on the lives of many children as well as numerous colleagues throughout the years. Her colleagues knew her as a kind soul, and always willing to uplift kids with hugs and encouragement.
She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 22 Years; Eric, Children; Rick (Kiana), Kathryn (Lindros), Dante, Abia, and her darling baby boy Cashtin, as well as the children who she took as her own; Paul Michael, N.J., Maureen, Stephen, Celine, Andrew, and Baby Scott, Sisters; Bridget (Justin), and Erica, her beautiful nieces that she treasured; Zalie, Eden, and Storme, Godparents; Mary Ellen (Bubblo) Gould, and Rannie Denny, Mother in law; Helen Dennis, Father in law Vincent Stevens (Sue), Brother in laws; Jim Maloney, Storm Gould, Danny, Jay (Helen), Vincent (Lenora), Sisters in law; Lorraine (Tommy), and Andrea, Godchildren; Jaycee Googoo, Dean Denny, Andrew Denny, and Scott Stevens, as well as all her numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.
