Catherine Eugenie McDougall of Howie Centre passed away on October 22, 2012.
Jean was born in Glace Bay, the daughter of the late Dan and Annie (MacNeil) McCormick.
Jean was a graduate of Normal College and started her teaching career in French Road and then taught 32 years in Sydney River. She was a person of strong faith and a member of the parish CWL of Our Lady of Fatima.
Jean was a very generous and caring person and thought so much of family. She was a wonderful ‘Gramma Jean’ to both her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mitchell; Alexa and Julia; Callum, Ruby and Brendan; Anna and Landon. Jean is survived by her daughter Marie (David) MacLean and their children Krista (Mark) Billard, Leanne, and Daniel (Alicia); her son Dan (Laura Muldoon) and their children Seamus, Fiona and Moragh; and her daughter Kim (Michael Morrisey) and Connor; son-in-law Damien Beaton and his daughters Lynne (Gavin) Maloney, Natalie (Matt) Smith and her two sisters Frances ‘Fa’ (Ray) MacIsaac and Helen (Jack) Pearson and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1993, her daughter Josephine Beaton, her brothers Charles ‘Gib’ and Dan ‘Sander’, her granddaughter Caroline Jean Beaton and a great grandson Ethan Billard. She was also predeceased by a brother Michael and a sister Blanche in infancy.
Visitation for Jean will take place today, Wednesday, October 24 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
