Cyril Alexander Abbass

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Cyril Abbass on January 14, 2026 at the age of 68. Cyril was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin and friend. Cyril will be dearly missed and always remembered for his kindness, generosity, extraordinary sense of humor and quick wit.

Cyril’s love for his family was unmatched and he brought them all so much happiness, love and laughter. He was the most wonderful husband to his wife, Madonna (MacGillivray) Abbass and an incredibly proud, supportive and loving father to his children, Brenna Abbass and Colin Abbass (Kayla Burke). Becoming a grandfather, or Jidd as he’s affectionately known to his beautiful grandchildren Jorja and Brooks, was an absolute joy.

Cyril had an extremely close and meaningful relationship with each of his siblings Toni (Mike) Isherwood, Farris (David) MacPherson, Shaun (Denise) Abbass, Chris (Ruby) Abbass, George (Eliza) Abbass and Simon Abbass. He grew up alongside many cousins with whom he shared a special bond and he truly treasured spending time in Ben Eoin with his family. His in-laws were also very dear to him and he always looked forward to Clan MacGillivray reunions in Dundee and Ireland.

Cyril was predeceased by his parents George and Irma (White) Abbass as well as his older brother Tim and his daughter Brianne in infancy.

Cyril worked for Canada Post as a letter carrier. He loved his job, interacting with his colleagues and how it allowed him to connect with people in the community.

A visitation will take place from 4 until 7pm on Wednesday, January 21st at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary's Church in East Bay at 10am on Thursday, January 22nd with Fr. Jobe Abbass officiating. Cremation has taken place.
