David Moore , 92 of Sydney, passed away on June 7, 2022 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney on Dec 18,1929 at St Rita's Hospital (Ross Memorial Hospital). He was raised on the Membertou Reserve and at his Grandparent's farm on the Wycocomagh Reserve. Eldest child of the late Noel & Mary Eliza (Sylliboy) Moore. Devoted father of Joanna (Paul) Hastings, ON; David (Catherine) NS; Robert, Sydney. Grandchildren: Mark (Laura) & Erica Hastings. New great Grandson, Caleb. Survived by sisters: Sister Dorothy Moore CSM, Myrna MacLean, Carol Marie Moore, In laws Peter Waldvogel and Olive Moore. David was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Anna Theresa (Gloade): Brothers Ralph, Carl, Barry, Alfred Moore & Sisters Mary Margaret (infant) & Muriel Waldvogel.
Known to all as Dave, in his younger years he was known for riding his '48 Indian Motorcycle around NS. He was a carpenter and a craftsman and worked beside his brothers at his father's hardwood flooring refinishing business. While working, he upgraded his education with 3 years of night courses & enrolled in vocational training. Being one of the first to graduate in NS with Journeyman papers in Motor Vehicle Repair Trade (Certificate No.5). He worked his trade in Halifax, Elmin Motors, RJ Logue & then becoming the Auto Body Shop Foreman at Cape Breton Chrysler (1967) Ltd. In 1974, he opened Dave Moore's Auto Body in Prime Brook where he worked until he was 76, retiring with a reputation for quality work.
Dave was a Membertou band councillor with Chief Ben Christmas where he lobbied and obtained water, sewer and power for homes in Membertou. He worked with Father Topshee as co-op housing was beginning in Sydney. He joined the Knightsbridge Housing Group where they cooperatively built their homes. He later became an ISHA Board of Director travelling throughout the USA promoting the co-op housing model of the Cody Institute.
He enjoyed being outdoors,camping, hiking & skiing the trails of Cape Breton for the majority of his life.
As a devout Catholic, he began at Sacred Heart Church, fundraised for the building of St Anthony Daniel and was on the church council. He helped build the St Anne's Mission Church in Membertou. Since a child, he was devoted to St Anne attending services throughout Cape Breton especially Chapel Island. Donations can be made to St Anne's Church in Membertou in his name.

A visitation for David will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George Street, Sydney, Nova Scotia. A Funeral Mass will occur Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Anne's Church, Membertou, Nova Scotia.
