It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Ella Mary Strickey on January 14, 2012 at Highland Manor in Neil’s Harbour. Born February 23, 1919 in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Catherine (MacDonald) MacNeil.
Ella was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was well known for her cooking and baking and anyone who had a meal at her home never forgot the experience. She instilled in her children the virtues of hard work and self reliance.
Ella is survived by daughters, Connie (Jim Beaver) and Valerie (Robert Gouthro); sons, Frank (Linda), Steve (Theresa) and John; sister, Lolie Chretian; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; sisters, Cassie MacNeil, Dodie Kehoe and Mary Dalton; brother, Steve MacNeil.
The family would like to thank the staff of Highland Manor for the kindness and compassion you have shown our mother during her stay with you. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Visitation for the late Mrs. Strickey will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be held 11a.m. Thursday, January 19 at St. Mary’s Polish Church, 21 Wesley St, Whitney Pier, Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
