Evelyn Pollett died peacefully on May 25, 2013 at The Cove Guest Home in Sydney, Cape Breton.
She was the daughter of the late Luther and Christie Moffatt. Following graduation from Sydney Academy, she attended Mount Allison University where she studied piano and voice, and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. She then took further training in voice at the Royal Conservatory of Music, in Toronto.
On her return to Sydney, she married Arthur Pollett, a well-known pharmacist and business man. Evelyn (Evie) was active in the community and in musical circles, participating in Rotary Shows and the Caledonia Ladies Chorus. She was a long time member of Unit 4 Guild, St. Andrew’s United Church and was an active member of several women’s groups. The social network she enjoyed for more than 70 years deeply enriched her life.
She was predeceased by Arthur, her husband of 60 years and her brothers Arnold and Robert Moffatt. She will be deeply missed by her three children – Jody Mackie of Edmonton, Alberta, Graham (and wife Elaine) of London, Ontario and Stuart of Point Edward, Cape Breton; her grandchildren – Douglas, Lorna (Bodnar), Cheryl and Tanya Mackie; her sister – Marjorie Hickey; her sisters-in-law, Jeannette Moffatt and Doris Firth; her great grandchildren Carter and Ashley; and many nieces and nephews.
Evie resided at Williston House from December 2010 through September 2012. She moved to The Cove Guest Home in October 2012. The family wishes to thank her caregivers in both facilities for the excellent care and support they provided to her.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, May 31 the T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney, with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. A reception will follow. .
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Evie may be made to a charity of your choice.
