The family of Gabriel Stephen Paul, 62 of Eskasoni regret to announce his sudden passing on December 29, 2014 on his way to Vegas.

Born in Sydney he was the son of the late George and Catherine (Sylliboy) Paul.

Gabriel was a graduate of Cape Breton University (BA) and St. Francis Xavier University (B.Ed.) He worked for many years as a teacher at Wagmatcookewey School and more recently there as a substitute teacher.

He is survived by his daughters, Leigh Ann (John), Faye (Peter) and Jenny (Edwin); son, Gabe; adopted son, Desmond; stepsons, Brennon and Drake. He is also survived by his sisters; Janet, Murdena (Albert) Eleanor (Patrick), Sharon (John) and Patricia (Barry); brothers, Peter, George (Laura), Jackie, Craig and his lifelong best friend, Mickey Johnson.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Georgina Stevens, Malia’n Marshall, and Matilda Benoit; brother, Ryan; nephew, Stephen Charles Denny; foster brothers, Keith Doucette, Norman Doucette; paternal grandfather, Peter Paul and maternal grandfather, Grand Chief, Gabriel Sylliboy

Visitation will begin 6 p.m. on Monday, January 5 at the home of his niece, Eleanor Bernard, 4905 shore Road, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7 at Holy Family parish, Rev. Martin MacDougall will officiate. Interment in parish cemetery.
