It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, and grandfather, George Boyle Cash, 77, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care on May 5th, 2020. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Tom and Mary (Boyle) Cash. He grew up in Irish Cove. In 1967, he moved to Toronto to attend the Metropolitan Toronto Police Academy, and upon graduation he served as a constable with the 55th Division of the Metropolitan Toronto Police Commission. He married Mary (Proctor) in 1969 and they settled in Scarborough and started their family before returning to Cape Breton in 1973. He worked as an insurance adjuster in Sydney, before finding his true calling as a carpenter. He ran a successful contracting business, working for many years building and improving homes across the island until retirement.
His favorite place to be was his bungalow in Irish Cove (God’s Country) spending time with friends and family where many cherished memories were made. He had a kind and gentle nature that was felt by all who new him and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his three daughters, Colleen Cash (Derek Jury), Halifax, Catherine Cash-Jacobs (Brad), Sydney River, and Alana Cash-MacKinnon (Rob), Halifax; sisters, Margaret Campbell (Stan), Sydney and Elizabeth MacNeil, Sydney; brothers, Frankie (Kay), Sydney, and Charlie (Marie), Irish Cove; grandchildren, Thomas, Luke, Logan Jacobs and Teaghan Jury and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Mary (Proctor) Cash, brother Kevin Cash, brother-in-law Francis MacNeil and niece Catherine Campbell.
We would like to thank the staff of Wentworth Court at Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their loving care and support of Dad. A special thank you is extended to Chris and Darin of Home Instead Senior Care for their companionship and compassion.
Due to COVID19 restrictions, there will be a private family visitation only. A funeral mass and celebration of George’s life will be held at 10 am on Saturday September 19, 2020 at Holy Redeemer Parish with Fr. Paul Murphy presiding. Internment to take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney River. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Salvation Army. We hope he is on a covered veranda in a thunderstorm with a good book and a strong cup of tea enjoying a view of the Bras D’Or Lakes.
