

George ‘Porgy’ Albert MacDougall83 – SydneyIt is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of George ‘Porgy’ Albert MacDougall at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, surrounded by family.He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (MacNeil) MacDougall from Argyle Street., Sydney. He will be sadly missed by his wife and best friend, Kaye (Ross) MacDougall. He is survived by his children Thelma, Halifax; Patsy (John) Astephen, Sydney; Allan (Martha), Ottawa and Steven (Jackie), Sydney, by sisters Rose (the late Eddie) MacNeil; Zelia (the late Bill) Goode; Clara (Bruce) Billet; Winnifred (Bill) Gallivan and brothers Donald ‘Stan the Man’ (the late Helen) and James ‘Sham’ (the late Joan). He is also survived by sister-in-law Kay Marie (the late Greg) and Donnie (the late Peggy) Antonello. He will we forever missed by his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Lee Ann “Astephen (Sam Bottomley); Janie (David) Wilson; David (Brandi) Astephen; Mary Katherine MacDougall; Ross MacDougall, Andrew MacDougall; Matthew MacDougall and Natalie MacDougall and three special great grandchildren, Ella and Lily Bottomley and Hayden Christopher George Astephen. George was predeceased by his son John in 1975, his sister Peggy Antonello and brothers Angus and Gregory. George was employed for 42 years with Nova Scotia Power as Supervisor of Operations/Management. He served during the Second World War and was a lifetime member of Ashby Legion, Branch 138. He was inducted into the Pictou Sports Hall of Fame. In his younger years, he coached minor hockey and he played hockey until he was 80. His favourite times at the rink were spent with the Sydney Millionaires Old Timers- good friends all. He loved tennis and was Past President of the Cromarty Tennis Club. His happiest times were spent with family and friends at the bungalow in Big Pond. Porgy was a dedicated family man, whose words of wisdom and sense of humour will never be forgotten. Visitation for George MacDougall will take place on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Cabot Street, Sydney with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations in Porgy’s memory can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
