Gerald Vincent Steele

1928 – 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Vincent Steele on September 22, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Frank and Jenny (Shears) Steele.

Dad worked at Sydney Steel as a crane operator until his retirement in the mid 80’s. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a loving father of sons Ronald (Patricia) and Frank and daughter Vivian (Eugene); survived by granddaughters Terrina, Tammy and Karen; grandsons Jason, Shawn, Cory and Terry and 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson. Also survived by sisters Bernice Lewis, Ann MacMullin and brother, George Steele; brother-in-law Jack (Evelyn) Dean, sister-in-law, Ann MacLeod and by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Edna in 1998; brothers Billy, Pat, Ronald and Frank.

Thank you to the VON and Patricia MacAulay for their help with dad over the past year.

In honoring Dad’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating.
