Howard Ambrose Oakley, 82 of Mira Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Residence, Sydney.

Born in Sydney, the son of the late Ambrose and Jemima (Howard) Oakley.

Before his illness, he enjoyed a good game of horseshoes, planting a vegetable garden (he was said to have a green thumb), fishing, and could be found grocery shopping looking for a good sale……he was always trying to save a penny. He also loved to sit and talk over a good cup of tea. Howard was a great Dad who loved his children dearly.

He is survived by his 3 daughters Maureen (Vince), Arlene and Kim, his 5 sons Howie, Carl, Lance (Carolyn), Leonard and Kenny (Tracy); 11 grandchildren Jennifer (Scott), Amanda (Chris), Christopher, Michelle, Kyle, Jeffrey, Travis, Jamey, Dylan, Jason and Justin; 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Clara and Laurel (Frankie), 4 brothers Gerald (Bessie), Murray, Walter (Jean), Karl and very close friend Todd Day.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Florence, brother Bob, sister Ellen, brothers-in-law Roy Pace and Francis Oakley and sister-in-law Marg Oakley.

There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1 at 10:30 am in Immaculate Heart Church with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
