John Douglas Blanchard

We the family of John Blanchard regret to announce his passing in Sydney on August 12, 2020. Born in Sydney, John was the son of John and Theresa (McGrady) Blanchard. John lived his life with knowing what was important, and what truly mattered, and he lived it with kindness and compassion and love for his family. He faced obstacles in his life with grace and without complaint. A quiet soul with a great sense of humour and a love for music, he was a man of determination, always knowing exactly what he wanted. John always had a great love of all animals, especially horses, and he spent most of his younger years at the race track where he was known by many. John attended the Horizon Achievement Centre for several years until his retirement in 2018. Before moving to Celtic Court in 2018, John lived with Cape Breton Community Housing for 25 years, which were his second family. John is survived by his mother Theresa, brothers Kirk, Kelly (Mary Lynn) and sister Wendy (Danny) MacDonald. He is also survived by his nieces Maria, Rhiannon, Brooklyn and nephews Nolan and Jax. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and many cousins. John was predeceased by his father John Blanchard SR (2017) as well as maternal and paternal grandparents, paternal aunt and maternal and paternal uncles. Special thanks to Cape Breton Community Housing and Celtic Court for your ongoing support, care and compassion that was shown to John over the years, we are forever grateful. Special thanks to Denise Gear for your love and friendship you showed to John, you had a very special place in his heart. Cremation has taken place. Due to seating restrictions, a private Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Wed Aug 19, 2020 for family and friends, at TW Curry Parkview Chapel. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the SPCA or the Horizon Achievement Centre building fund.
