John Gregory Gillis

84, Grand Mira South

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather, John Gregory Gillis, 84 of Grand Mira South. John passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2014.

Born in Grand Mira, John was the son of the late Neil D. and Agnes (MacKinnon) Gillis. John was predeceased by his wife, Rose Marie (Black) Gillis; daughters, Anne Marie and Janice (in infancy); brothers, Danny, Rannie and Neil and sister,Tina Baldwin.

Prior to his retirement in 1991, John was employed for 30 plus years with Mason’s Wholesale Ltd. He took pride in his work and was a very dedicated employee. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Mira South and loved being home and with family. His community and family were everything.

John is survived by sons, Steve (Mora) and Ronnie (Ann); daughters, Helen (David) Ferguson, Theresa, Mary, Donna (Eddie) Niedzielski, Karen (Blair) MacDonald, Kim (Glenn) MacDonald, and Arlene (Dexter) Wiseman; 20 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. John is also survived by brothers, Jimmy and Joe; sister, Sadie (Allan) MacNeil; sisters-in-law, Theresa and Peggy Gillis; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for the late John Gillis will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday, January 27 at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 28 at St. Margaret’s Church, Grand Mira South, Fr. Paul MacGillvary will officiate. Interment in the parish cemetery
