It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing
of Jack DeCourcy of Sydney. He died after a short
illness on April 17, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Jack was born in Sydney, the son of the late
George A. and Nora (Donovan) DeCourcy.
He received his early education at Sacred Heart School
and Sydney Academy. Jack worked between the S&L
Railway, and then as an engineer at Devco Railway.
He retired in 1995 after 46 years. Jack enjoyed both
his legion buddies and a great game of pool,
as well as his nightly walks with friends.
Jack will be missed by his wife of 45 years, the former
Theresa Hanna; daughter, Janice (Todd) Handspiker,
Sask.; son, John, Halifax; and especially his grandchildren,
Kevin and Sean. He is survived by two sisters, Bertha
(Rich) Bonelli, Long Island, N.Y., Marie (Leonard) Dunn,
Sydney; brother, George (Regina), Sydney; sister-in-law,
Laurel DeCourcy, Point Claire, Que.; brother-in-law,
Alex MacEachern, Sydney; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jack was predeceased by sisters, Rita, Bernice, Eileen
(MacEachern), Theresa (Moreau) as well as brothers,
Thomas and Rev. William B. DeCourcy.
Visitation for the late Mr. DeCourcy will be held today
(Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview
Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April
20 at 10 am at St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Jim Oliver
officiating. Interment to follow at Resurrection
Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
