So sorry to hear of your loss.  John was truly an earth angel.  His jest for life and compassion and gratitude for those he called friends will be missed by many.  He was like a breath of fresh air.  My thoughts are prayers are with you.

John was a dear sweet man . He was always a gentleman to me when I did his footcare.He'd shake my hand,give me a hug tell me a joke &walk me to the main door& hold it open for me when our appointment was finished. I left with a happy heart after seeing him.I  was blessed to have him met him. He was blessed to have you, his family. He spoke highly of you.

To John's sisters....John was a man who always shook our hands when we'd meet, never rushing by without a word. We shared stories and songs at Maxwell's in Sydney and John seemed at his happiest when the mike was in his hand and a song was on his lips. I knew John in childhood, and knew him later as the kind and gentle man he became. He will be missed. Please know that many many of us share your sorrow. Our sincere sympathy.

"Little Johnny", as he was affectionately referred to, was a regular at Maxwell's where I worked for 2 years. He brightened everyone's day with his sweet sayings and always jovial demeanor. He will be dearly missed and always in our hearts. "You sweetheart are like a box of choclates; certainly sweet, but a little nutty!"

We are so lucky to have met John and been touched by his happiness and joy for life.  I know he is now at peace dancing a jig, singing his heart out and telling a few jokes.  He will most certainly be wearing a grin on his chin.

Our sympathy in the loss of your brother Johnny.  Did you know I was always classed as his "first girlfriend".  Does not seem such a long time ago when I baby sat all of you.  You have been wonderful in the ongoing care of your Mom and also Johnny.  I know you will miss him but know he is now at peace and happy once again to be with Mom.

As a young man he had so many friends and always had a wonderful smile and greeting.  I am glad to know that he is now at peace and with "his special Mom".

It is too bad Johhny had to leave us so early.  He was a very nice man.  I manage Mayflower Mall and I always enjoyed speaking to him when he was in.

John has left a big space in many lives. I treasure countless memories of John that go way back to our days in Caledonia School. 
When I returned to Glace Bay in 1987 one of the first people to welcome me "back to the Bay, bye" was John. Never did he fail to shake my hand when we met; and he always asked after my parents and sisters. He would often drop into the funeral home just for a visit, to share stories from our school days, and to tell me one of his jokes (usually a graoner!).  Would that we could all embrace life - both the bad days and the good - with the joy that was so much a part of John's nature.
Margaret joins me in extending sympathy to each of you. We share your loss and your grief. But we also blessedly share in celebrating John's life with big smiles and many laughs. While he might not have recognized it as such, John had a real ministry; a ministry of presence that taught us what it means to live selflessly.  That he  he loved you and was so very proud of you there is no doubt. 
May the wonderful memories rush in to fill the space he has left.

Had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat this am when I seen Johnny's obit in the paper.I did not realize he was in the hosp.Hadn't seen him around in a bit and was wondering what was up. Glad to hear his passing was peaceful.We were friends back to elementary school at St Anthony's School #11.In junior high(St Anthony's) I signed a year book for Johnny.To this day, whenever I would see him, he would say- "remember when you signed my book bud!"Its funny how such a small act of kindness could mean so much to someone. It did to Johnny. he never forgot.Love the pic you choose for his obit.He was always smiling and telling jokes.Will miss him.

Everytime he saw me ,he asked about my uncle Johnny Bear , and we talked music..He always sang me a line of Derek and The Dominos "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out " or "Have You Ever Loved A Woman"..Those songs are forever John's in my memories.
