83 – Westmount

John ‘Jack’ V. O’Brien of Westmount, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney at the age of 83.

Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Martin and Annie Mary (Healy) O’Brien. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Jack was a retiree of MT&T. He enjoyed many good times on Friday afternoons playing darts with his friends, Reggie, Gerard, Al and Joe and also chatting with his neighbors while sitting on his front steps.

He will be missed by his wife of 59 years, Frances (MacLeod), as well as daughters Jacqueline (Scott) Burton, Sydney; Debbie (Tom), NB; Brenda (David) Wall, Sydney; Erin, ON; Susan Rose, New Hampshire and Joanne (Mike), ON; sons, Bernie (Julie), ON and Shaun (Ellen), Sydney Mines. Papa Jack will be missed by his 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by son David in 1995, sisters Eileen, Mary and Betty; brothers Bernie, Martin, Joseph, Gerry, Howard and Frank.

There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place as per his request. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 2 pm at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating.
