It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Mary Johnena Cameron on September 19, 2013 at the age of 93, after a short illness, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Deepdale, Inverness in 1920, Johnena is the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was the daughter of the late James and Isabell MacDonald. Johnena was predeceased by her husband Murdock Archibald Cameron; sons, John and Gregory and daughter Jussi. Johnena is survived by her loving family who will miss her dearly; daughters Ethel (Jimmy) Rooth, Sydney; Patricia (Trevor) Hansen, Mira; Beatrice (Dougie) Wall, New Brunswick; sons, Jimmy, Donnie, Murdock (Karen), Raymond (Wendy), all of Sydney; foster daughters Tonya, Truro, NS; Mary Ann Wilson, Fort McMurray, AB; Valerie Tobin, Colleen Tobin, Beverly Tobin, Cathy MacNeil, all of Sydney; grandchildren D.J., Colin and Jessie who she loved dearly, Lena Cameron, who always baked and checked on Mom and by many nieces and nephews from all over. Johnena has 36 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by brothers, Alex, Archie, Francis and Michael; sisters, Annie May and Mary Kay. Mom was a devoted Catholic and believed in the power of prayer. Many would call her to have her say prayers when in need. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s parish. She was a strong person and always took care of many people and often worried about others. Her amazing memory allowed her to remember every birthday and anniversary. You could ask her anything and she would remember. Years ago, Mom loved to travel to see family members. She always loved to have company and no one left without a cup of tea, lunch and a good laugh, a trait which she passed along to her children. She will be missed dearly and never forgotten. Many thanks to Dr. Glen Worth for his loving care to mom, ER and ICU doctors and nurses, Fr. McGillvray for his blessing and anyone we have forgotten. Visitation for Johnena Cameron will be held 7- 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 pm on Sunday at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment at Forest Haven Cemetery.
