It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Joyce Eileen Mullins (MacLennan), 79 of Main-A-Dieu on March 2, 2020. She is the beloved wife of Ben Mullins and beloved mother of their four children; Eileen, Benjie, Audrey (Craig MacLeod), and Peter Christopher. She was born on March 10, 1940 to the late Christopher ‘Buster’ and Mary (Morrison) MacLennan of Glace Bay. Mom attended St. Anne’s School and at the age of 17 entered St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, graduating in 1960 as a Registered Nurse. It was there she developed lifelong friendships and became a member of the Notorious Intermediates. She loved you all so much. In 1962 she attended Dalhousie University, received her Instructors certificate, and taught the RN program at St. Joseph’s until 1965, when she married our Dad. The next decade she devoted herself to raising their young family and supporting our Dad in the family business. She returned to work in the mid 70s and proceeded to teach CNAs and LPNs at the Cape Breton Regional Vocational School, New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and NSCC, retiring in 2000. Our Mom wore many hats, literally and figuratively. And she wore them all well. Always stylish, we choose to remember her stunning green eyes and smile. Devoted daughter, sister, nurse, wife, mother, teacher and friend. She was born to be of service. She taught us to be compassionate and kind especially to those in need. And to never judge a book by its cover, she lived with faith hope and love. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren; Kaleigh (Steve), Payton (Nathan), and Jessica MacLeod; Michael (Angel), Kaytee (Ryan) and Alex Mullins; Cody and Adrianna Mullins, and great granddaughter Bailey Chance Joyce Mullins. Mom was predeceased by her older sister Carol and her Husband Charlie Ready of Charlottetown PEI, she is also survived by her younger siblings Donald, Truro; David and Charles (Margaret) both of Ottawa and Bonnie (Alan Cuelier) of Halifax. Also by Rannie Mac Donald and Arlene King who held special places in her heart. God saw you were tired and in pain, so he took you Home to Heaven where you so deserved to be Sweet Mother. Special thanks to Roseanne Campbell, Beth Kehoe and Ramona Parczen for kindness and assistance to Mom the past few years; Pam Ryan, RN of VON; the staff at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Tom Hubrecht, and Bill Curry and Staff. Cremation has taken place, the family will receive condolences Friday March 6th from 1-3pm at Immaculate Conception Church, Main-A-Dieu. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 pm, with Fr. Evo Di Pierro. Reception to follow, burial at a later date. “the most beautiful word on the lips of mankind is the word ‘Mother’, and the most beautiful call is the call of ‘My Mother’.” Kahlil Gibran Online condolences can be left for Joyce’s family by visiting www.twcurry.com
