Kareem Michael Sullivan, 78 of Sydney, formerly of 303 Cherry Street, passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his daughter's residence (Debbie), surrounded by loving wife and devoted family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Michael and Suzanne (McKenna) Sulllivan.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney. He retired as superintendent of City of Sydney Public Works Dept. in 1994 after 40 years service. Creamie was a devoted family man whose grandchildren called him the Rock and their hero. He was most happy and relaxed in his favourite spot, his bungalow in Baddeck.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Mary Murphy, daughters Debbie (Brian) Costigan, Sydney; Phyllis (Eddie) Brace, Sydney; Patricia ‘Trish’ (Jerry) Smits, Sydney; Carol (Shane) Doyle, N.B.; sons Doug (Karen), Sydney; John (Deedee), Sydney; by 15 grandchildren Karen, Michelle, Deborah, Tonya, Brian, Stephen, Jennifer, Shauna, Bill, Peter, Michael, Suzanna, Brandon, Kenneth, Natasha and by 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Maurice (Joyce), Sydney and a sister Mrs. Delores Graham, Sydney.
He was predeceased by his precious granddaughter Angela Marie Smits, son William in infancy and by several brothers and sisters.
Visitation for Mr. Sullivan will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Saturday, March 31 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and Sunday, April 1 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Monday at 11 am at St. Andrew’s United Church with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
