Halifax/Westmount
We are deeply saddened by the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Kathleen (Catherine) Marie MacDonald who died on October 28, 2013 surrounded by her family at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Halifax.
Born on July 6, 1929 in Queensville, Inverness County, Kathleen is the daughter of the late Dougald Sandy John Peter MacDonald, Creignish Rear and the late Kate Jesse MacEachern, Glenora, Cape Breton.
Kathleen had a steadfast faith and love in God. Kathleen had other defined values that guided her and her family throughout life such as success through education and a strong sense of family and family supporting one another. She loved to spend time in her garden in Westmount and pick berries with family. She was extremely proud of her cultural heritage and Gaelic language. She especially enjoyed Celtic Music Festivals. With the passing of her mother in her early childhood, she played an instrumental role in caring for her younger siblings and attending to farm chores. We will always cherish the many special celebrations with family music. Kathleen was a wonderful mother and will be missed dearly by her family.
Kathleen was married to the late Lawrence Vincent MacDonald, son of the late Duncan Francis and Mary Rebecca (Mamie) MacDonald, formerly of Troy. Kathleen had ten children and 25 grandchildren. Their daughters are: Kate Martin (Tom), Halifax, and their children, Jessica and Gabrielle; Carol DeYoung (Jimmy), Halifax, and their children Melanie, Genevieve, Carol Ann and James; Sharon Morash (Kenny), Halifax, their child Kendra; Pauline MacDonald, Halifax, her children Emilee and Daniel; Carmel MacDonald (Doug), East Mountain, her children Kelton and Brodie and Brenda Murray (Bill), Halifax, and their children Nicole and Kathleen. Their sons are: Dr. Lawrence (Lornie) MacDonald (Jean), Rothesay, New Brunswick, and their children Kyle, Shannon, Riley and Colin; Francis MacDonald, Queensville; Alvin MacDonald (Raylene), Cole Harbour, and their children Kaitlin, Aislin and Devin; and Brian MacDonald (Jennifer), Antigonish, and their children Anna, Olivia, Brienne, Abigail and Mark.
Kathleen is survived by a brother, Alex MacDonald, Kingsville.
She was predeceased by her sister Ann MacDonald, Westmount, and brothers Francis and Donnie MacDonald, Queensville.
Visitations for Kathleen will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, on Thursday, October 31, 2013. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Doug Murphy in the Holy Rosary Church, Westmount on November 1st at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Holy Rosary Parish Cemetery, Westmount.
The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to staff at Parkstone Enhanced Care in Clayton Park and the staff of the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital (8.2) in Halifax. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Holy Rosary Parish or charity of choice. Online condolences to www.twcurry.com
