OBITUARIO
Marie Kacevychius
15 agosto , 1935 – 15 noviembre , 2020
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother Marie Ann (MacNeil) Kacevychius on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at the age 85. She passed away at home surrounded by family. Born in Benacadie Pond, she was the daughter of the late Allan H. and Catherine MacNeil.
Marie is survived by her children Allan (Wendy), Robert “Bob”, Joanne McNutt (Greg) and Marlene Urquhart (Sandy), her grandchildren Kyle (Sara), Evan, Reilley, Conor and Alia, and great-grandchildren Brynlee and Carson. Marie is also survived by her sister Sheila Chiasson (Clarence).
Besides her parents, Mom is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Joseph “Cash”, her son Wayne, her siblings, Mabel (Sol) Fewer, Michael “Mickey”, Irene MacLennan (Freddie), Joseph, Louise (Ed) Dwyer and Margaret Ann. Mom was also survived by and known as “Nan” to many family and friends but most of all had the honour of being “Aunt Nan” to some of the most amazing nieces and nephews who she enjoyed many laughs and making wonderful memories over the years. She will be missed by all of them.
A long time resident of Sydney’s North end, Mom attended Holy Angels High and was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She was employed for many years at F.W. Woolworths in Sydney. In 2016, Mom relocated to Truro to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She then moved into Eden Hall, Cedarstone Enhanced Care, but her heart was always in Cape Breton. While at Cedarstone, Mom made many friends with staff and residents who became part of her extended family. Mom and her friend Shirley were inseparable and the two of them along with Elsie were always up for fun, laughs and causing mischief. Mom was always the instigator of trouble but was quick to deny her part in these antics. We often heard her say, “Who me? Nooo. I am an angel!”
Mom was a woman of strong faith, was so proud of the family she raised and was happiest when we were together. She modelled and taught us the importance of working hard and taking pride in a job well done. Mom was a wonderful baker and was known for her apple pies and pork pies. She was an avid reader and loved to do puzzles. Mom had a special place in her heart reserved for animals, caring for those that did not have a home, and often adopting them. Her cat Sam stayed near her in her last weeks, giving comfort to them both. We are grateful for the fact that her dementia did not have the opportunity to take her from us, or us from her.
We loved her dearly and are so proud of her. Knowing she is reunited with Dad gives us great comfort that they are together again.
A private service will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish with Fr. Bill Burke presiding. Those wishing may attend virtually by joining our livestream on TW Curry’s Facebook page on Friday, Nov. 20 at 1pm. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com If desired, donations may be made to the SPCA or Hospice Cape Breton.

I have many memories of the Kacevychius Children coming to school obviously well loved, well dressed and well nurtured, taught to be respectful and polite. I also remember when your Mom would come on “Parents Night “for the sole purpose of gaining insights into helping her children to advance and do well. My years as a teacher in the North End were wonderful years chiefly because of the fine parents like yours. She was a pleasant ,gracious lady . I extend my condolences to each of you over your great loss.

So very sorry to read of Marie’s passing. Often she and Joe sat behind me at Sacred Heart, with a little lean over the pew to ask how other parishioners were doing. Always a smile whenever we met. My sincerest sympathies to all of you .

Your mom was a wonderful person. She always made me smile. When i lived on Campbell Street, lots of memories. She would joke with me, calling me a brat. I laugh remembering now. She will be missed by many who knew her. A kind, wonderful, loving lady. She is now at peace with her love.
Condolences sent to all of her family.
