Mary Kaye C. MacNeil Gillis

Born in Iona, she was the daughter of the late Neil M. and Christie (MacLean) MacNeil.

Prior to her residing the past few years in Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Mary Catherine lived in Sydney and was a member of St. Theresa’s parish.

Mary Catherine enjoyed baking and sewing, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann (Barry) Nickerson; Mary (Stephen) Gouthro; and her son Francis (Claudia), all of Sydney; her grandchildren Christopher, Emma Kaye, Jolene, Cara, all of Sydney; Rachel, Halifax and Mark, Montreal, as well as 4 great grandchildren, Camden, Jaycee, Mason and Emmy.

Mary Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Anthony and son Neil Edward ‘Eddie’. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, being predeceased by her sisters Mary Elizabeth, Jennie (MacNeil), Florence (MacKinnon) and brothers Neilie, Roddie and Michael.

Visitation for Mrs. Gillis will take place at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Friday (today) from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
