Mary Carolyn Googoo will always be well-known for her special brown sugar frosting desserts, her molasses raisin bread and don’t forget her orange upsy-daisies. But it will be her gentle loving spirit that will always be cherished by those she touched. In these unprecedented times the Googoo family is heartbroken to announce the passing of a loving wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mary Carolyn Googoo of Eskasoni. The youngest in her family and forever the baby girl, Mary passed away on Tuesday April 14, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born on January 20, 1955 to John T. and Margaret “Dr. Granny” (Paul) Johnson. Mary was devoted and dedicated to her family. Her kindness and compassion came from growing up in Eskasoni in a large and loving family. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her husband Allan, children Stephanie, Sacha, Dylan, Ethan and Carlee, grandchildren Coda (James Morgan), Candace, Caprice, Constantine, Charmaine and Charity and Ange, Avery, Sky, Dre, Prentice Junior and Presley, great grandsons Lucas, Stefan and Pie’l. Mary was lovingly devoted to her family. She loved to laugh, sing and she was always kind to people. Mary was a humble person and had the soul of an angel. She loved to cook and will be remembered for her baking and when she needed extra money her baking generated extra income for the family. She will be greatly missed by her good friends, Mary Edwina, Doreen Young and Rose Herney and heartfelt thank you to Mary’s homecare workers Cheyanne and Karen. Outside of spending time with her family, one of her favorite things was going casino with her husband. During this pandemic, Mi’kmaq customs are at its mercy and we cannot celebrate Mary’s life in the Mi’kmaq traditional way. With this said, funeral service will take place at 2pm on Monday, April 20, with immediate family only. Those wishing may attend online by visiting TW Curry’s facebook page at that time.
