With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Mary Kathrina Nicholas, affectionately known as Kat - a woman whose strength, warmth, and unwavering devotion touched countless lives. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Mars Hill, Maine, Kat was raised by her Kiju, Madeline and Benjamin Johnson, and was the beloved daughter of the late Mary Agnes (Marshall) Nicholas and Merlin Lynds. She carried the memory of her godparents, the late Roddie Steves and Mary Catherine MacNeil, with great reverence.
She was predeceased by her cherished siblings: Mickey, Andrew Boy, Peter, Barbara, Lillian (Potlotek), and Margaret—all held close in her heart and spirit.
Kat was a devoted and proud mother to her children:
Shaun Marshall, Roderick Nicholas, Tristen Isadore, Dexter Martin, Savannah Isadore, and Rita Sack.
To them, she was a guiding light—loving, wise, and ever-present.
She served her community with compassion through her work at the Eskasoni Crisis Centre, offering strength and care during the most vulnerable times. Her friends were dear to her and forever held close.
To her godchildren—Benjamin, Kevin, Violet, Hannah, Virickson, Allison, Ashley, Chade, Matthew, and Summer—Kat was a second mother and a source of unconditional love. As a confirmation godmother to Jessica, Susie Jane, and April, she offered spiritual support with grace.
She is survived by her loving partner & siblings:
Michael Joe Pyk, Gutlin, Hazel, Rosie, Marlyn, Marian, Charles, Walter, Lillian, Emily, Marjorie Marshall (Louis), Gloria and Annie—each one sharing a deep and unbreakable bond with her. She also held a special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews, loving them all as her own.
Kat’s legacy is built not on accolades but on everyday acts of kindness—the meals made with love, the prayers offered in quiet, and the comfort found in her embrace. Her laughter, wisdom, and presence remain with us always.
Visitation will take place at the Gabriel Centre in Eskasoni starting at 7pm on Saturday, May 3rd with a Funeral Mass taking place on Monday, May 5th at Holy Family Catholic Church, 50 Gabriel Street, Eskasoni with Fr. Antolin Asor officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery followed by a Salite. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting twcurry.com.
Rest gently, Mary Kathrina.
You were deeply loved and will be forever missed.
