It is with great sorrow that we the family of Norman Lloyd Thompson (Sydney River) announce his sudden passing on Tuesday May 10th, 2022 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care with his family by his side. A loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle, he was born on February 28th, 1947 in Sydney, the son of the late Clarence and Mary (Marrie) Thompson.
An avid outdoorsman, Norman naturally found a career doing what he loved – he was a dedicated mailman for Canada Post for over 38 years. Norman was member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and served as an eucharistic minister for many years. His greatest joy was the birth of his two children, and he cherished every moment being their dad. He was known for his sense of humour, love of poetry, connection with animals, excitement for Christmas decorating, and exploring areas around the island hiking and metal detecting. He especially loved Diane’s cooking and baking.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years Diane (Murphy); his children, Amy (David) of Sydney and Matthew (abroad); sisters, Betty (Toronto), Helen (Sydney), Marjorie (Brookfield), Marilyn (Halifax); sisters-in-law Sue (London, ON), and Maureen (Paris, ON); as well as several nephews and nieces, with whom he enjoyed countless memorable adventures. He is also survived by his many in-laws, the Murphy family of Big Pond. Besides his parents, Norman was predeceased by his sister Joan, niece Susen, and beloved brothers Jimmy, Bobby, Joe, and Davie.
Sincere thanks to the staff of the ER and unit 3B of CBRH and Norman’s special team from Northside Home Care for their great care and kindness. We are forever grateful to Dr. Jeanne Ferguson for the excellent treatment she provided for Norman. Heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff of Soldier’s Cove, Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their loving and compassionate care, always treating Norman and us like family during his time there.
