The Dawson family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing, at home, of their mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Pearl Dawson, on the afternoon of April 17, 2022, Easter Sunday. Born and raised in Whitney Pier, Pearl was the daughter of the late Bill and Katie (MacNeil) Blanchard.
After attending Holy Redeemer Girls, Pearl apprenticed to become a hairdresser and was employed at the Sylvia Dawn and Harris Beauty Salons. One evening Pearl attended a baseball game where her friend introduced her to a baseball player named John. He walked her home and the rest is history.
Our parents were married on July 19, 1954. Mom became a homemaker and together John and Pearl provided a loving and supportive home for their family. In February 2006, Pearl suffered a stroke and since that time her children and grandchildren have loved and cared for her and admired her faith, wit and determination. Even though she suffered from vascular dementia for 16 years, she still enjoyed having her hair done every Friday at Lita’s, selecting bright colours when having a manicure, having a coffee at Starbucks, supper at a restaurant, shopping and she continued to maintain her lovely sense of style.
Pearl is survived by her daughter Thelma (Doug) Libbus, sons Harold ‘Hylo’ (Kim) and Tony (Margie). She was Nanny Pearl to her grandchildren; Anthony (Casey), Heidi, Jack (Ryane) and her great grandchildren Lexi, Logan and Parker. Pearl is also survived by her sisters; Mary Rose, Theresa (Bill) Vanechuk, Louise (Joe) Prestara, brother-in-law Charles Yakimchuk, sisters-in-law Pat Blanchard, Theresa Blanchard, Kay Ongo and many nieces and nephews. In our Dad’s family, she is survived by her sister-in-law Dora (Al) Clark and many Doucet/Dawson nieces and nephews who she always looked forward to seeing at the Dawson suppers.
Pearl was predeceased by her husband John, sister Thelma Yakimchuk, brothers Bill, John, Eddie, Joey, Tommy, a brother in infancy, her nephew John, brother-in-law Murray Rose and sister-in-law Sharon Blanchard.
Visitation for Pearl will be held at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday April 21, 2022 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday April 22, 2022 at Holy Redeemer Church at 11 am with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. A reception will follow at TW Curry Parkview Chapel. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery.
The past week has been a very difficult one for us but our hearts are full of gratitude for the support that we received. Thank you to our cousin Wendy’s Husband, Danny MacDonald, for being with us every step of the way. We would also like to than Fr. Paul Murphy for his visit and final prayers, the sisters and associates of the Congregation of Notre Dame for their prayers, Palliative Care, Continuing Care and the dedicated nurses of the VON.
