Peter 'Poppy' Joseph Whelan, 70 of Coxheath passed away at home on July 27, 2011. Born in Borris Co. Carlow, Ireland, he was a son of the late John and Kathleen (O'Brien) Whelan. Peter is survived by wife, Elizabeth 'Betty' Ann (Ellis); children, Colleen Tara (Murdock) Whelan-Smith, Daniel Peter (Carresa Alleyne) Whelan and Kathleen Elizabeth Whelan; siblings, Luie (Fred) Roberts, Veronica (Pat) McCarthy, Patricia (Jack) Minchin, Bridgit (Peter) Higgins, Rene (Michael) Kelly, Mary (Pat) Sullivan, Daniel (Breda) Whelan, all of Ireland and Fr. Seamus Whelan, Argentina; grandchildren, Jonathan Whelan, Jillian Whelan, Mason Poirier, Murdock Smith and Jordyn Whelan. He was predeceased by sister, Joan (Roy) Rogers, England. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, July 31 in T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 am on Monday, August 1, 2011 in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fr. Seamus Whelan will officiate. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Garden. A reception will follow the interment in T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel.
