He was the son of the late Ambrose and Eunice Forgeron and will be forever missed by his devoted wife of 69 years, Rose Marie Forgeron (Matheson); and cherished by his children who were blessed to call him Daddy: Huena Corbett (Gary); Regina Spencer (Bruce); Theresa Forgeron; Jo-Anne Magee; Robert Forgeron (Lori); and Charlotte Forgeron (Clarence “Soups”). He was predeceased by his infant son, Peter; and sons-in-law H.F. (Boe) MacIntyre, John Murphy, and Leonard Magee.
Roy is also survived by his 16 grandchildren: Charity (Jeff); Paul (Shannon); Stefan (Emily); Cara; Andrea (Kael); Michelle; Brittany (Jeff); Bridget; Katherine (Liam); Shauna (Mathieu); Amanda (David); Nathan (Mallory); Emma; Olivia; Meghan (Mason); and Christian (Emily) and 21 great grandchildren.
Left also to mourn are his siblings, Bill Forgeron (Audie), Charlotte “Babs” Hall, and sisters-in-law Mary and Frances Forgeron, together with many nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his siblings Ted (Muriel), Sid, Sandy, Joe, and Regina.
Roy lived most of his life in Main-A-Dieu and Louisbourg where he served as head lighthouse keeper for 24 years until his retirement in 1990. He was also known for his exceptional carpentry skills, building many homes, including his own retirement home in his beloved Main-A-Dieu.
He was a man of integrity, honesty and faith, giving freely of his time and talents to his family, friends, church, and community. He served on Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister; he was also a member of the folk choir, the Knights of Columbus, and Christmas Helpers; and he quietly helped many in need without fanfare or expectation of repayment, but with a simple “don’t worry about it”. Roy had a strong Marian devotion and fittingly passed on while praying the Rosary.
Roy had an infectious smile and laugh, together with a ready joke or story which he gladly shared. People instantly felt welcomed and comfortable in his presence. He enjoyed many activities including vacations, especially to Boston to visit the Matheson extended clan, together with cards, singing, dancing, fishing, and sailing, chiefly on his boat, the Camp K. Sunday and holiday family dinners held a special place in the Forgeron household, with grandchildren and great grandchildren vying for their Grampy’s attention and laughter. Our memories of these special moments will be our most cherished possessions. We will honour Roy with our lives – in the choices we select, the words we voice, and the actions we undertake.
At this time, our family also wishes to thank those who helped Dad as his health declined, and in particular Tony McDougall and Danny Baldwin; as well as Dr. Liam Orrell who provided exceptional care despite Roy’s varied and serious health complications; and the health care team at Parkland Clayton Park. In addition, a special thanks to the servers at Kiju’s and Simeons restaurants for their exceptional kindness to Roy over many years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 am. The wake and funeral will both be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Main-A-Dieu. Donations may be made to Loaves and Fishes or the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund.
