We the family of the Late Ryan Joseph Paul, 65 of Eskasoni, are sad to announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and a dearly loved uncle and a true friend to all who knew him. Mi’kmaq Grand Council Keptin, Ryan Joseph Paul passed away on February 17, 2013 at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with the support of his family and friends
A bus driver, fisherman and carpenter, Ryan was an avid sportsman who coached hockey and fastball during great times of Indian ball in the 70s winning numerous championships with Albert Marshall Construction and winning many battles with the Eskasoni Eagles hockey team.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth, 2 sons; George (Mary), Sean Ryan (Kissy), 3 daughters Carol Ann (Joe), Starr and Dwan; 17 grandchildren; Shawnee, George Brett & Brayden, Walter Sean Ryan, Keisha, Deniro, & Nathaniel, Reanne, Jolie & Rhenda, Shaelyn, Camryn, Maisyn, Derek Mike, Suzee Anne & Harry, and Dallas. His brothers; George 'Juice', Peter 'Chaps', John Edward 'Jackie', Gabriel 'Gubby', & Craig and sisters; Matilda, Janet, Eleanor, Sharon and Patsy, 12 Godchildren and Godmother Georgina Burgess.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, George & Catherine 'Tiannie' Paul, paternal grandparents, Peter & Elizabeth Paul, maternal grandparents Grand Chief Gabriel &Harriet Sylliboy , sisters Georgina 'Francho' Stevens and Mary Ann 'Malia'n' Marshall , foster son John Duncan Doucette.
Ryan’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Virick, Dr. Todd, Dr. Ritter, Dr. Maharaj, and the entire staff of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, for their professional care during his brief stay there. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 21 at his home, 4916 Shore Road after 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 23 at 10:30am at the Eskasoni Holy Family Church officiated by Fr.
