When visiting Sr Evelyn at the Sr’s bungalow a chick flew into the glass window where we were sitting and fell to the ground. She commented that “He must be dead right Joanie?” I said “most of them just get the wind knocked out of them.”  With that Sr Evelyn jumped up from her chair and flew out the door as fast as she could. She hollered “I found him!” He was laying in the grass. She rubbed his head and body and spoke to him for 10min until he woke up.She was beside herself with excitement. “To think I would have just sat there if you had not told me they do not die” she said. That bird stayed with Sr.Evelyn after he woke and chirped in her palm for a full 5min. She was so thrilled if she had her way he would stay for an hour.

 Sr Evelyn never forgot that special day until the end and when I reminded her in one of our phone calls she thanked me because it brought her the same joy back again as it did that day at the bungalow. She had a true love for all living things. Her heart was precious and she is still precious in a home God has prepared just for her. Enjoy all the precious animals and children that God has surrounding you Sr Evylen. We will meet again some special day.

I was so sorry to read of Sr. Evelyn McNeil’s passing a few days ago.
I remember her fondly as a kind and gentle woman who always had time to have a chat whenever you met her.  My sincere condolences to her family and especially to the congregation of Notre Dame sisters.  May she Rest In Peace.

As we celebrate the life of Sister Evelyn McNeil, to all the McNeil families, I mourn her absence from this earth.  How appropriate  she prepared for her departure during the beautiful Easter Season.  Today we celebrate the Ascension of Christ into Heaven, the Christ whom she served so well all her life.  Rest In Peace, cousin.  Reap the rewards of your generous service to God and humanity.

I will always remember Aunt Evelyn. She was a kind sweet loving Aunt. She made the best peanut butter marshmallow squares. It was unfortunate i did not see her for a few years . I was very sad when I read about Sr,Evelyn’s death,  She taught me at Braemore  School in Antigonish in Grade Five,  My memories of her include all the times she would play baseball with us and other fun activities.  Most of all I remember the environment she created for learning , a place where I felt comfortable  and learned about the curriculum but also other things.  I remember her stories about coal mining and the fact that her Father was a miner.  So many years later when I moved to New Waterford it felt familiar.  I visited her in New Victoria as a teenager and was treated so well.
     All the experiences I had with Sr. Evelyn were experiences of kindness and care.  My only regret was that I did not get to visit her in the last number of years.  Please be assured of my prayers and my gratitude for having known such a great woman and wonderful teacher.
