Sr. Frances Beaton died peacefully on 3rd of February, 2020 at the CND Health Care Centre, Sydney, NS.
Born in Inverness, October 10, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Finlay and Florence Elizabeth (MacLennan) Beaton.
She entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1940 and made profession in 1942. Countless numbers of students in Sydney, Sydney Mines, New Victoria and Antigonish benefited from her teaching expertise which spanned thirty-seven years.
Upon retiring from teaching, Sister Frances volunteered at the Cape Breton Correctional Center where her teaching skills were much appreciated. She was local leader at Notre Dame Convent, Sydney Mines. Sister’s last years were spent at the CND Health Care Centre, where her ministry was one of prayer for the needs of our world.
Sister Frances was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her siblings; Christina Beaton, Catherine (Taddy) Murphy, John Ronnie Beaton, Anita Beaton, Mary Frances (Francie) MacNeil, Paula Malenfant and Pauline Beaton. She is also predeceased by 2 nephews, Ronsie and Stephen Beaton.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who loved her dearly.
Visitation for Sister Frances will be held Thursday February 6, 2020 from 2-5pm at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, NS with a Bible Vigil at 4pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday February 7 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
