Annie Theresa Gillis, age 83, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the An Cala unit of the C.B. Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Benacadie, she was the daughter of the late John and Christina (MacNeil) MacLennan.
She was a member of Holy Redeemer parish and longtime member of the parish CWL, and was active during summer months at St. Barra parish, Christmas Island. Theresa very much enjoyed her time spent with Alex at Benacadie Pond following her retirement from NS Power in 1991. Theresa most enjoyed her many hours spent with relatives and friends particularly while beating them at a good game of cards. She was a very devoted mother and friend who had a very deep faith with a special devotion to St. Anne.
She is survived by daughters, Anne Elizabeth Hall, Coxheath; Ann Marie Gillis (John Dean), Sydney; sons James MacNeil, Sydney; Vince (Celia) Gillis, Coxheath; Ronald (Beth) MacNeil, Beaver Cove; Bill Gillis, Sydney River; Frankie (Joyce) MacNeil, Sydney; John MacNeil (Christine Grimm), Truro; a sister Mary Elizabeth Gillis, Glace Bay; a brother Dan Dougal (Isabelle), Benacadie, 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
Theresa was predeceased by her first husband, Ronald MacNeil in 1967 and her second husband Alex Gillis in 2005, by brothers Neil Francis, Angus Dan, Malcolm, Alex, Jackie, Mick, Angus ‘Iah’ and Alexander in infancy and sisters Mary Anne, Josephine and Kay.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Gillis will be from 2-4 & 7-9 pm on Wednesday, January 28 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday at Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
