Anna Theresa Moore, 87 of Sydney, passes away on June 18, 2018 in Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Truro on March 22, 1931, she was raised on the Millbrook Reserve and was the daughter of the late Stephen and Nancy (Glode) Gloade.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, David Moore; children, Joanna (Paul) Hastings, Oakville, ON; David (Catherine Ross), Windsor, NS; Robert, Sydney, NS, grandchildren: Mark and Erica Hastings, brother and sister Gordon and Muriel, Truro and sister Mary, Ottawa, ON.
She was predeceased by brothers Thomas and Stephen Gloade of Millbrook.
Theresa attended Millbrook Day School and graduated high school at Colchester County Academy. She married and moved to Membertou then into Sydney and was active in the building of her community. While raising her family, she attended Cape Breton Business College and for the next 30 years her activities focused on the advancement of Community and Native women’s issues.
Secretary/Bookkeeper for St. Anthony Daniel Parish, served on the Parish council and 50th Anniversary Committee. Past CWL President and Bookkeeper. Past Executive Member (Treasurer) for NS Native Women’s Assoc. On Board of Directors (Past Secretary) of the National Native Women’s Association of Canada, Ottawa, Appointed member of the first NS Advisory Council on the Status of Women, Past Board of Director for the Native Communication Society of NS publishers of the Micmac News. In addition to all this work she remained for 30 years, the bookkeeper for Dave Moore’s Auto Body.
Health issues required her to end active participation, but Theresa continued to discuss issues until her increasing dementia limited her further input.
Special thanks to her regular caregivers from Membertou, Alisha, Elaine and Marcus and to the numerous caregivers from Respite Care/City Homemakers and to the caring Hospital staff in her last few weeks of life.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9pm on Mon June 25, 2018 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St. Sydney. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on June 26, 2018 at St. Ann’s Church, Membertou Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Interment to take place following the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations in memory may be made to St. Ann’s Church, Membertou.
