November 13, 1963 – November 4, 2019
It is with the greatest sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, husband Wilfred (Mr. Big) Prosper at his home on November 4, 2019.
Born to the late Wilfred Prosper Sr. and Bessie Prosper (Stevens) on November 13, 1963.
He was the official Cross-Bearer for the Mi’kmaw Grand Council and St. Anne’s Mission since 2004.
Wilfred was a devoted Catholic and an active member of Holy Family Parish. He was the burial ground custodian, a member of the Mi’kmaw Choir and part of the Cursillo Movement.
Wilfred worked for First Nations Construction for 32 years, starting as a labourer and ending as an operations manager, with many titles in between. The family handyman, who was always ready to help his family, siblings, extended family, & the community. An engineer by experience, and much more.
Active in fiddling culture and music, he was a musician and a member of the Cape Breton Fiddler’s Association, the Cedar’s Square Dancing Club and potentially more than we could list.
Wilfred is survived by his wife, Laura Ann Prosper (Bernard), his sons, Curtis Prosper & Kaplie’l Prosper, his daughters, Nicole Googoo (Wade), Marilyn Prosper, & Bessie Prosper (Theodore), six grandchildren, Wayne (10), Celina (8), Levanna (7), Ronan (6), Wade (2), and his blue eyed gem Wilfred Lawrence (7 months). He is also survived by his mother Bessie, brothers, Kenny from Halifax, Raymond (Val), Floyd (Dawna), & Anthony from Eskasoni, his sisters, Linda, Regina (Gerard), Stella (Steve), Vivian (Allen), Rita (Billy), Ramona (Lloyd), Norma (Mikey), Mary (George), & Helen (Jay), all from Eskasoni along with many other relatives. He leaves his Godmother, Eva Bernard. Godchildren, Bernard J Prosper, Breanne Bernard, Von Crowe, Diandra Cremo, Suzanna Prosper, Caleb Prosper, Bernie Sack, Aaron Prosper, & Kendra Marshall and Rezny Dennis who was accepted into the family and many dear friends, including Al Bundy, and so many more special friends that they could not possibly be listed.
Besides his father, he is also predeceased by his son Wilfred Joseph Prosper III, brother Bernard Peter Prosper, godfather John Denny, his father in-law Lawrence Bernard, & his Mother in-law Lena Bernard.
His will be greatly missed by all as we went everywhere for tea, sometimes 3 or 4 times a day with his spicy oatmeal ginger cookies from Mabou. He also drove his best friend Al Bundy home from work most mornings after his night shift.
Prayers will commence at 7pm on Sunday, November 10th at 4760 Shore Rd, Eskasoni. Funeral Mass will take place at Holy Family Church, Eskasoni on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 10:30 with Fr.
