Dr. Charles C. Moore passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at the age of 98, at Madison Hospital, Madison, Alabama. He was born to Rev. Ollie M. and Ethel Roper Moore on August 9, 1926 in Bridgeton, N.J. while his father was in Seminary. Four years later the family moved back to their home in Shelby County, Alabama. Growing up in rural Alabama during the Depression instilled in him a work ethic that would sustain him through his life and seven decades of ministry. Upon graduation from Shelby County High School, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a Flight Engineer and Base Operations Chief of Administration. After his Honorable Discharge, he continued his formal education and earned his AB degree from Howard College (now Samford University), his BD, ThM. and DMin. degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
During his 72 years of ministry, he served as Pastor of churches in Kentucky, Alabama, Maryland and Virginia. Dr. Moore retired in Sylacauga, AL and had recently moved to Madison, AL to be close to family. As a part of his ministry, he led mission groups to India and the African continent. He will be remembered for his love of studying and teaching the Bible, his kind and encouraging manner, his sincere interest in everyone he met, and especially for his deep devotion to the Lord and to his family.
Dr. Moore is survived by his wife of 75 years, Anna Lois Davis of Madison, AL; sons, Stephen C. Moore of Huntsville, AL and John M. Moore (Suzanne) of Hartselle, AL; granddaughter, Lindsay Dempsey (Rob) of Toney, AL; grandsons, Jonathan Moore of Orlando, FL and Zachary Moore of Palm Bay, FL; great granddaughter Bristol Dempsey and great grandson Briggs Dempsey; his sister, Ruby Garmon and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Ollie M. and Ethel R. Moore; brother, Dr. Harold E. Moore and sister Lois Ann Lee.
A visitation for Dr. Moore will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Dr. Moore will be laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
