Sylacauga, AL - Clemmie Edwin Lewis, age 93, passed away on October 22, 2023 in Murfreesboro, TN.
Clemmie is survived by his daughters Sheila Pennington (George), Angie Dean (Chris) and Joan Rodgers (Richard), daughter-in-law Sheila Kaye Lewis (Drew); 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Lavada Lewis; his second wife Lois Lewis; his sons Barry Lewis, Ken Lewis and Keith Lewis; his parents Olie and Iola Lewis; his sisters Elise Bates and Olene Womack; and his brother Lynn Lewis.
Clemmie volunteered for the Air Force when he was eighteen, and eventually received a medical discharge. He spent most of his career building houses, retired, served as a council member for the Town of Oak Grove for 8 years and then spent a term as Mayor of Oak Grove. He met the love of his life in Lois and she kept him in line and always had a plan for the weekend. They loved to travel together and loved going to the grandchildren’s events. They were inseparable and were quick to show up when someone needed them. They spent 38 years together and were the picture of a match made in heaven.
If you knew him, you knew he was one of a kind. He handled grief in ways that most of us couldn’t understand. He made people laugh wherever he went. He suffered health issues for a number of years but enjoyed every day. He rarely complained and was content with whatever came his way.
If he attempted to pass on his knowledge or skill, he would convince you that you could do anything you set your mind to. He worried less than most because his life message was “If you can do something about it, do it and if you can’t, don’t worry because it won’t do any good anyway.”
Clemmie had the privilege of being one of the founding members of Travis Road Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. After moving to Sylacauga, he attended Marble City Baptist Church.
