Don was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Leon Guy and Willie Frances Rutherford; his twin brother, Michael Earnest Guy; and his first wife and mother of his children, Lorraine Guy Mizzell. He is survived by his loving brother, Phil Guy (Lena); second wife Glenda Reed, who was his best friend, and loving, faithful partner. Also, three daughters who cherished him deeply, Victoria Burns (Bill), Ashley Sharit (Brad) and Kristy Woodward (Sam); many grandchildren who loved their “Papaw” dearly, AJ Brenner, Logan Brenner, Kerith Brook Trammell (Dakota), Brandon Burns, Emily Burns, Madelyn Burns, Benjamin Sharit, Anna Grace Sharit, Lincoln Sharit, Sam Woodward, Jack Woodward, Luke Woodward, Ava Lorraine Woodward and one great grandson, Will Brenner.
Born in Henderson, Tennessee and raised in Booneville, Mississippi; after college Don settled his family in Trussville, Alabama in 1978. Don was always a driven person. That drive combined with his strong work ethic quickly led him to become an accomplished business owner in the plumbing supply industry in Birmingham and the surrounding areas, along with business partner Bill Gayle. Retiring at an early age to pursue many of his hobbies and passions, most of which revolved around farms, fishing, tractors and a great love of nature.
Don spent most of his later years in the Childersburg, Alabama area where he became a dedicated member of Odena Baptist Church and later, Sycamore Baptist Church. Don had a heart for the Lord and for giving to those in need, and his passion for giving generously touched countless lives. He will be missed by many.
Mr. Guy’s memorial will be held on Saturday, September 3rd at Curtis & Sons Funeral Home, located at 1315 Talladega Highway, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150. Visitation will begin at 10:00 with services following at 11:00.
Mr. Guy will be laid to rest at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Trussville, Alabama.
