Ellis A. BrowningSylacauga, AL - Funeral service for Ellis A. Browning, 92, will be Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 10:30 am at Radney-Smith Chapel with Rev. Jimmie Roberts, Rev. Donald Grice and Rev. Donnie Blackmon officiating.  Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL.Mr. Browning died Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Coosa Valley Medical Center.  Mr. Browning was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Edith Blankenship Browning, son, Jerry D. Browning, grandson, Matt Browning, parents, Marvin and Ezell Browning, brothers, William Browning and Marshall Browning, sisters Lillie Mae Corbett ad Catherine Honeycutt.  Ellis was an active member of Westview Baptist Church.  He served with the Sylacauga Gas Department for 25 years.  He was honorably discharged from Armed Services where he served 6 years overseas during WWII.  When the War ended he remained overseas on security detail on PT boats trying to get Japanese soldiers to surrender off the New Guinea Islands.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He will be truly missed by all of his family and friends.He is survived by sons, Doyle Browning, wife Sharee of Sylacauga and Freddie Browning, wife Mona of Goodwater; daughter, Susie Spurgeon, husband David of Sylacauga; daughter-in-law, Marsha Browning; brothers, Eugene Browning of Sylacauga, Troy Browning of Sylacauga and Milton Browning of Jacksonville, AL; sisters, Willie Nell Roach of Sylacauga and Shirley Stanley of Phenix City, AL; special friend, Alma Bean; grandchildren, Chad Browning, Russ Browning, Brooke Alowa, Hollie Browning, Justin Browning, Jeremy Browning, Melanie Layton, Lori Layton and Brandon Spurgeon; and 9 great-grandchildren.  Visitation will be Friday, November 11, 2011 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.Pallbearers will be Chad Browning, Russ Browning, Jeremy Browning, Justin Browning, Cody Tarpley and Joel Alowa.Memorial messages may be sent to the family at www.radneysmith.com.Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga, AL will direct the services.
