

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for John D. "Smilin Jack" Jennings, 79, will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at Sycamore Baptist Church with the Rev. Herman Parker officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Jennings died Aug. 31, 2010 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. Mr. Jennings was known to everyone as "Smilin Jack". He was born in Greenville, S.C. He met and married wife Helen in Bremen, Ga., and moved with his family to Sylacauga in 1963. They were married for 48 years. He drove for Floyd & Beasley for 35 years, West Point Pepperill for 10 years, and Ellis Trucking for five years. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church where he drove the church bus and van on Sunday's and on trips. Survivors are his wife, Helen Jennings of Sylacauga; sons, Jimmy Austin (Sherry) and Chris Austin (Beth) all of Sylacauga; daughter, Brenda Cook (Nathan) of Talladega; grandchildren, Johnny (Marie) Machen of Sylacauga, Tammy Machen of Talladega, June Stanley and Adam Austin both of Anniston; nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2. Pallbearers will be Doug Floyd, Bruce Ellis, John Tyminski, Reese Brooks, Cecil Barnett, and Bill White.
Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.
