

March 5, 2021. Born July 16, 1932, in White House, Texas, she was a daughter of the late
Eugene Shelton and Norene Dudley Shelton Weist. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, James Willard Slay; daughter, Cynthia Ellen Slay;
sister, Wanda Yoquelet and grandson, Guy Slay.
Mrs. Slay loved the Lord and was a member of First Church of God in Columbia, as well
as the First Church of God in Sylacauga. She was involved in various church activities,
including, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. Mrs. Slay enjoyed spending
time outside, working diligently in her many flower gardens. She was also an avid reader,
loved to play scrabble, and put puzzles together. Mrs. Slay was die hard Alabama
Crimson Tide sports fan. Roll Tide!
Survivors include her children, Melinda Stewart (Bill) of Sylacauga, AL, Brenda Bassett
(Greg) of Sylacauga, AL, Randall Alan Slay (Tammy) of Covington, VA, Russell Lynn Slay
(Lori) of Fayetteville, AL, Sandra S. Rusnak (Richard) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren,
Chris Stewart, Scott Stewart, Tammy Gill, Shelly Harris, Rachel Pooley, Cindy Heptinstall,
Chris Slay, Chelsea Slay, Carlee Slay, Bret Rusnak, and Jamie Davis; great grandchildren,
William Stewart, Stephen Stewart, Hayden Stewart, Allie Gill, Rhett Pooley, Lauren
Pooley, Leslie Kate Heptinstall, Devin Slay, Dakota Slay, Drake Slay, Owen Rusnak,
Hayden Rusnak, Ava Grace Davis, and Major Slay; as well as a great-great grandson,
Jasper Slay.
The graveside service for Mrs. Slay will be held 2 o’clock Tuesday, March 9th at
Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 1501 Talladega Hwy, Sylacauga, AL 35150 with Rev.
Richard Rusnak officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o’clock at Curtis and Son
Funeral Home, 1315 Old Talladega Hwy, Sylacauga, AL 35150.
All are invited to attend; however, masks and social distancing are required to create a
safe environment for all.
