Dean grew up in Weogufka and graduated high school in 1961. She moved to Gainesville, Florida, in 1987 and was employed by UF Health Shands Hospital until her retirement.
Dean was a resident of Turkey Creek Forest in Gainesville and a member of Parkview Baptist Church. Her faith and love for the church were a few of the constants in her life. She cherished the many life-long friendships formed through work and various church programs and activities.
Prior to the death of her mother, Dean was a faithful care giver. She was a loving and loved sister to her brother, sister-in-law, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. As a friend observed, she loved and was loved, and that may be the greatest blessing of all.
Dean is survived by her brother and sister-in-law David and Linda Mulkey of Gainesville, Florida; three nieces, Kara Harmon (Brian) Alachua, of Florida, Joy Peterson (Tony) McDonough, of Georgia, and Anna Mulkey Alachua, of Florida; and five grandnieces and grandnephews.
Dean’s final resting place will be near her parents in the cemetery at Unity Presbyterian Church, 8780 Coosa County Road 56, Weogufka, AL, 35183. Remains will be interred in a brief graveside service at 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Following the graveside service, please join the family at the church for a memorial service to celebrate Dean’s life, followed by a visitation in the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of love can be made in Dean’s name to Unity Presbyterian Church, 8780 Coosa County Road 56, Weogufka, AL, 35183.
