Sylacauga, AL. - Sharon Riddle Mintz died peacefully on Sunday February 23, 2025, from complications of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was 74 years old.
Sharon was born in Sylacauga to the late Lucille and Lawrence Riddle in 1950. She graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1968 before attending the University of Montevallo, majoring in Social Work. Sharon worked for the State of Alabama in the Department of Human Resources (DHR) throughout her career. She earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work from The University of Alabama in 1987. She retired as the DHR Director of Calhoun County in 2007.
She met her husband, Billy Frank Mintz, at the DHR office in Talladega, Alabama. They were married in 1976 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Sylacauga, Alabama. They enjoyed a loving marriage of almost 50 years and raised two children together, Dr. Memorie M. Gosa of Tuscaloosa and Clayton F. Mintz of Sylacauga. Sharon was an active member of the Sylacauga community throughout her life, volunteering with various organizations and remaining active in her church community.
Sharon was a devoted and loving grandmother of five grandchildren: Austin F. Mintz, Tucker A. Gosa, Samuel M. Gosa, Gade Clay Mintz, and Charles F. Mintz II (Chip). She looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and loved nothing more in life than being their Nanna. You could always count on her to be cheering them on at their various activities. She loved to watch them play baseball, soccer, and softball. She always delighted in their academic and personal achievements.
Sharon was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother (Billy Riddle). She is survived by her husband (Billy F. Mintz), daughter (Memorie M. Gosa (Joe Gosa)), son (Clayton F. Mintz (Alana Mintz)), and five grandchildren (Austin Mintz, Tucker Gosa, Sam Gosa, Gade Clay Mintz, and Chip Mintz).
Sharon’s ashes will be interred at the Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga, Alabama. There will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorials be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Sylacauga, Alabama.
