
Shirley Pike CorcoranSHIRLEY PIKE CORCORAN, age 74, joined her husband James P. Corcoran in Heaven on Saturday January 29, 2011. She was born August 27, 1936 in Bon Air, AL, to the late Marlin Olin Pike Sr. and Mary Porter Pike. She is survived by daughter Susan Corcoran Davis, husband Michael, sisters Margaret Pike Taylor, Betty Pike Shaw, brother Marlin Olin Pike Jr., and sister Dean Pike Hickey, Hugh.She graduated from B. B. Comer High School in Sylacauga, AL and then obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1958 from Alabama College in Montevallo, AL majoring in Health & Physical Education with a minor in Biology. She obtained a Masters Degree of Education at the University of Montevallo. As a teacher she touched the lives of many people for over 35 years. Places she taught include North Charleston High School in North Charleston, SC from 1958 – 1967 where she coached Girls Varsity Basketball, Boys and Girls Tennis, Cheerleader Sponsor, and girls Physical Education Club. She then taught Biology and Physiology at Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, AL from 1967 -1968 then at Carlisle Park Jr. High School in Guntersville, 1968 - 1971 coaching Girls Physical Education and Girls Cheerleading Sponsor. She then taught at Wade Hampton Academy inOrangeburg, S.C. from 1971 - 1972. She then taught 7th grade Life Science, 8th grade Earth Science, and 9th grade Physical Science and Health at B. B. Comer School in Sylacauga, AL from 1974 until her retirement in 1995. In Sylacauga, AL, she was a member of Five Points Baptist Church and formerly a member of Mignon Baptist Church for many years. She was also a member of the Frontier Bank Golden Opportunity Travel Group. The family will receive friends Tuesday February 1, 2011 from 5 -8 p.m. and aMemorial Service will be held on Wednesday February 2, 2011 at 2 p.m., both at Radney Smith Chapel. Reverend Wayne Burns will officiate the memorial service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL. Pall Bearers will be Erskine Penton, Harold Brooks, Chris Studdard, Mark Taylor, Ernie Ward, Mike Taylor, Rev. Casey Jones and Bradley Hill.Her family will accept flowers or donations. Donations in memory of Shirley Corcoran may be made to Five Points Baptist Church Youth Program at 267 Odens Mill Road, Sylacauga, AL 35150.
