Virginia is survived by her husband, Alton L Smith, her daughter Genny Smith Bates (Lynn), her granddaughters Bethany Thomas Mullinax (Brad) and Anna Bates Ingram (PJ). Four great grandchildren, Jameson Mullinax, Harper Mullinax, Jon-William Mullinax and Ella Grace Ingram.
Virginia was preceded in death by her Father, John Dallas Hollis, her mother, Zena Hardy Hollis, her daughter, Gay Smith, Thomas (Mike) and her brother, Mickey Hollis (Lou Ann)
She was a loving wife to Alton for 69 years. She was his “Jewel” and they loved each other joyfully, holding hands until her last breath.
She was a Godly mother to her two daughters, always modeling faithfulness and kindness as she created a home full of hospitality and unfailing love.
To her two granddaughters, she was the epitome of what a grandmother should be. Full of laughter, life lessons, and glimpses of the Lord’s love.
She was loved by everyone who knew her, a confidant, fellow follower of Jesus and a best friend, especially to her lifelong friend, Shirley Van Elzen.
Her passing leaves us with a hole in our hearts, but we rejoice in knowing her suffering has come to an end and she is rejoicing and reuniting in Heaven.
A visitation for Virginia will be held Thursday, February 20th from 5 to 7 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 21 at 10:00 AM at Odena Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Brad Mullinax officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are Bill Klinner, Jameson Mullinax, Jon-William Mullinax, PJ Ingram, Howard Smith, and Andy Hollis.
