

Sylacauga, AL - Funeral service for Willa Dean Melton Lewis, 74, will be Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist - Sylacauga with Rev. James Haskins officiating. She will lie in state one hour prior to her service. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL.
Mrs. Lewis died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Murray and Nora Jackson Melton.
Born is Alexander City, Alabama on September 15, 1942, Mrs. Lewis was a 1960 graduate of Sylacauga High School where she was a majorette and cheerleader. She attended Livingston University, Alexander City State Junior College, and was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham where she received her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. She was employed as an instructional assistant and teacher at Mountain View and Pinecrest Elementary Schools for over 25 years. Mrs. Lewis was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she served as a New World Choir and MYF counselor, and was a member of the Chancel Choir, Upper Room Sunday School Class, Board of Trustees, United Methodist Women, and Administrative Board. She was a former den mother for Cub Scout Pack 126. She was a member of The Red Hat Society and Sylacauga's Marble Festival Committee. She loved reading, writing poetry, sewing, dancing, traveling, and attending Alabama Crimson Tide football games.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Earl R. Lewis; daughter, Robin Lewis; son, Stephen E. Lewis wife Charmelle; granddaughter, Rebekah Barnett husband Joe; brother, Bill Melton wife Sandy and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday December 1, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home.
Contributions may be sent to First United Methodist Church or Care House.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Simpkins, Rooster Grice, Nick Menzies, Joe Harris, Leon Kelly, Chuck Terrell, Keith Gilmore and Will Melton. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Vaughn, Arnold Cleghorn, Ginger Clifton, Joan Blocker, Janice Menzies, Marion Wood, Bob Mallory, and Upper Room Sunday School Class.
